Maribeth McDaniels

Maribeth McDaniels, mother, grandmother and friend to all she met, passed away Monday, August 22nd in Portland. She was 81 years old. Mrs. McDaniels, born in Sacramento, California, moved to Portland, Oregon as an infant, living initially at the Campbell Hotel (currently the Campbell Court Apartments). Her family moved a few times before settling at 32nd Place and Siskiyou in northeast Portland. A Grant High School graduate, she attended and graduated from Oregon State University (where she met her beloved husband, Jack Sr.). She and Jack were wed on December 22, 1956 and were married almost 45 years until Jack's death in 2001. They loved to travel together to the beach in Lincoln City as well as many other locations, including Vancouver B.C. and Yellowstone National Park. She was very passionate about her alma mater and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega during her time at Oregon State. Education was very important to Maribeth and she helped put her daughter and two grandsons' through college. She served as Executive Director of Campfire Girls of the Columbia and quit when Jack Jr. came into their life. When her kids reached Junior High and High School, she joined her husband, Jack Sr. at Meier & Frank working as a marker/checker. She was Karen's Bluebird and Campfire leader for many years. She was also her children's biggest cheerleader, supporting a myriad of their activities with her husband, which included football, baseball, gymnastics, ballet and dance team. She was also an active member of New Hope church, where her late husband Jack Sr. served as greeter and Maribeth helped out wherever needed. Maribeth unconditionally loved her family, Jack Sr., Jack Jr., Karen and her son-in-law Ron, as well as her grandsons, Tyler and Brent. After the death of her husband, Maribeth travelled with her family to Hawaii, Chicago, New York as well as her birthplace in Sacramento, CA. Survivors include her son, Jack Jr. of Lincoln City, daughter Karen Knight of Camas (husband Ron), and her two grandson's Tyler and Brent. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 29th at New Hope Church, in Clackamas.
