Raymond W Boerckel

Raymond W. Boerckel passed away in Salem, OR. at the age of 94 on March 21, 2019 after complications from a hip replacement. He was born on December 11, 1924 in Peoria, IL. To Willard and Ruth Boerckel.

Ray attended Benson High School in Portland. In 1943, he was drafted into the Army in WWII at the age of 18.  He earned the rank of Sergeant in the 5th Army Division, received 2 Bronze Stars with Oak Leaves and 4 Battle Stars.

At 32, Ray broke his neck and was paralyzed on the left side for the rest of his life, however that did not stop him from doing anything!

In 1968, He moved to Lincoln City with his family and worked for A&A Amusement. In 1979, he started Ray’s Amusement Co., and the Fun Center until retirement. He was a lifelong member of the Elks in Lincoln City for 53 years and a member of the Congregational Church in Lincoln City.

Ray loved his family and traveled extensively with his wife Sonja. She preceded him in death in 2017.  

He leaves behind daughter, Kimberly DeSau(David) and daughter, Deborah Hitchcock. Also, Dennis Woodward(Candy), Heidi Cohen, and Bert Woodward(Teresa). Ray was preceded in death by his sons, Paul Boerckel, Kevin Michael Kimsey, and Terry Woodward. He also had 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

On April 2, 2019, Raymond received Military Honors Ceremony at Willamette National Cemetery, where he was laid to rest with his beloved wife, Sonja.
