Jana D. Westhusing

February 18, 1956 ~ April 2, 2019 (age 63)

Jana Dale Westhusing 63, passed away on April 2, 2019 at her home in Newport, Oregon. Jana was born in Plainville, KS on February 18, 1956. Her childhood was spent in Stockton, KS making many wonderful memories and forming long-lasting relationships. After receiving a B.S. in Psychology at Kansas State University in 1978, Jana traveled west, spending time in Vail (CO); Laguna Beach (CA); Seattle (WA); and Boulder (CO). She spent her last 11 wonderful years in Newport (OR) enjoying the ocean and riding her bike on the beach.

Jana’s multiple pursuits included careers as a graphic designer, real estate broker, and artist. She excelled in both photography and pencil art. Jana possessed a joyful spirit and was always up for an adventure. Jana’s wonderful sense of humor, laughter, and smile would light up a room. Most important was Jana’s ability to connect with people from all walks of life, where she made each person feel like they were her best friend. Her true best friend and soulmate was found in Boulder (CO) in 1992 with the chance meeting of Mary Jo Higgins. The two enjoyed 27 years of love, joy, and adventure.

Jana is survived by her partner, Mary Jo Higgins, and their three beloved cats: Luna, Deuce, and Mouse; parents, Gene and Pat Westhusing of Stockton (KS); sister, Brenda Goll (Mike) of Salina (KS); brother-in-law, Mark Coble (Angie) of Salina (KS); three nephews, Chandler Brass (Carissa) of Stockton (KS), Dr. Connor Brass of Kansas City (MO), Spencer Brass of Los Angeles (CA); two nieces, Grace Godsey of Overland Park (KS); and Sophie Yule (Richard) of Mission (KS). Jana’s nieces, nephews, family and friends brought her amazing joy over the years and she loved them dearly. Jana was preceded in death by her wonderful grandparents; sister, Julie Ann Coble; and birth father, Clyde Boller.

 

As Jana wished, a Celebration of Life will be held on April 27th at Bier One in Newport (OR) from 2:00- 4:00 and in Stockton, Kansas at a later date. Memorials may be sent to two of Jana’s favorite causes: FOLCAS at folcas.com, dedicated to the health and well- being of animals in Lincoln County or Surfrider Foundation at surfrider.org, dedicated to the protection of the world’s oceans, waves, and beaches.
