James was born September 23, 1948 in Pensacola, Florida to Lawrence & Lola (Stewart) Tucker. He passed away surrounded by his care team at Evergreen Hospice in Albany, Oregon on June 21, 2018 at the age of 69.
He graduated Newport High School in 1968, then married Deena Rowley from 1969 -1976 having one daughter, Tara together. Later having two daughters, Janet & Laura with Debra Tyler. During his high school years and after into the late 70's he was in competitive surfing. He also played competitive softball in the 80's and 90's for a number of different teams. He then was involved in competitive drag racing with NHRA in the 90's through 2011. He won trophy's in all the sports he loved. During his life he lived in Florida, California, mostly in Oregon and often visited Hawaii. James was a cable repair man for TCI, AT&T and Comcast for over 30 years. He was member of Agate Beach Surf Club, Woodburn Drag Strip Racing Club (NHRA) and the BCA Pool League. He enjoyed surfing, car racing, working on and modifying his 68' El Camino for racing, movie enthusiast, he loved playing his guitar, riding his motorcycles, playing pool with his daughter, Janet and watching the surf.
Left to mourn are his daughters; Tara Phillips, Janet Tucker and Laura Renfrow, Debra's children Diane Tyler and Jay Tyler, James's bother Larry Tucker, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild along with many other family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence & Lola (Stewart) Tucker and his sister Rosalie German.
A Celebration of Life and Paddle Out Service will be held August 11th, 2018 at 2:00 PM located at Agate Beach Surf Cove in Newport, Oregon. Parking at The Yaquina Head Lighthouse, the service can be observed from the parking lot. A $7.00 fee per vehicle will be charged at the entrance of the park. Take the 1st left at Quarry Cove Trail at the stop sign turn right for parking. All are invited to a reception with light refreshments after the ceremony between 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM at Best Western Agate Beach in the Convention Center.
