James Lawrence Schaal, 78 years old, was born to William and Lola Mae Schaal on February 18, 1940, in Brawley, CA. James left this world peacefully with his family at his side on October 14, 2018.

Jim grew up in California with his family moving quite often due to work options for his dad. As an adult Jim settled in the San Joaquin valley and began his family as well as his construction career. Jim became a  successful General Contractor specializing in Commercial business.

When his son Michael, then 10, came home saying he'd like to play soccer, that began Jim's love of the game, but even more important love of coaching and mentoring youth. Jim coached youth soccer on and off until his mobility became more limited. He continued to support from the stands.

In retirement, Jim and Robin decided to venture outside of California and bought a home on the Oregon coast. There Jim continued to influence the community with his love of youth and the game of soccer. He became involved in Central Coast Soccer Association (CCSA) helping to unify the soccer league and served as President.

It was Jim's desire that their Depoe Bay home be his final place before moving to life’s next chapter. That was accomplished and Jim enjoyed the ocean view as he left this life and moved onto the next.

Jim leaves a beautiful family; his wife Robin Schaal, children Michael (Stephanie) Schaal, Jaime Schaal, Stacy Schaal; grandchildren Lindsey, Matthew, August, Alyssa and Reagan; step-grandchildren Ryan and Liam, great-grandchild, Bella, and his brother Manuel Schaal and his wife Julie.

Jim's celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 10 beginning at 1:00 pm at the Elbow Room in Fresno, CA. Please come and celebrate this man and share how he touched so many lives.
