Dan ‘Mr. P’ Pistoresi passed away at home October 17, 2018. He touched many lives and realized many accomplishments in his 94 years, and was still ready to take on life’s next challenge. He was born in Madera, California on December 19th, 1923 - to Guido and Caterina Pistoresi, affectionately known as Ma and Pa, who with their daughter, Sara - were Italian immigrants. They were especially proud of their first and only American-borne child. Within two years they moved to Portland, Oregon, where Dan lived his childhood in the southeast area. He loved playing sports, particularly ‘basketball’; whenever and wherever he could.

After high school he met the love of his life Elaine Albert. It was 1943, World War II was raging and he joined the Merchant Marines and spent three years in service to the American war effort. He married Elaine in 1944 and after the war settled into married life in Portland. Dan had a restaurant on the southeast side of the Burnside bridge, and for awhile, a photography studio. But, he eventually fell into trade of selling cars and that became his profession of choice; working for 50 years in the auto industry; sales, management, ownership and consultation; with dealerships in Oregon, Canada, California, Nevada and Alaska. During all those years he was always finding ways to support and sponsor any just cause, team or community effort.

He fathered four children, Michael, Danise, Larry and Paul in these years of enjoying life and the ‘love of family‘. In retirement, they migrated from Alaska in 1996, back to Oregon - Depoe Bay, in fact, and opened their restaurant, ‘Mr. P’s Ristaurante’. They served that community for eight years, working seven days a week and loving every minute of it. They moved the business to Lincoln City in 2003, but due to health issues Dan took a sabbatical for two years and set out to write his autobiography. They resumed the restaurant operations from 2005-2011, always enjoying the day-to-day experience of running a small business; the customers, employees and purveyors. Dan and Elaine were always feeding or helping those in need, living a modest lifestyle and donating to many people and charities along the way. His book ‘Taking the bitter with the Sweet’ was published in 2014, thus setting off another adventure, ‘promoting’ it. His, was a full life!

Preceding Dan in death were his parents, son Paul, sister Sara Runnels, and grandson Joseph Heil. He is survived by his wife Elaine Marie, daughter Danise & (son-in-law Michael) Trute, sons Larry Pistoresi and Michael & (daughter-in-law Debbie) Pistoresi, grandsons Jeff & spouse Melissa Pistoresi and Brad & spouse Erin Pistoresi, granddaughter Auryn Lane (Vanessa) Pistoresi and great grandchildren, Kenzie, Kaden, Gianna and Livia Pistoresi.

Private family internment was held October 23, 2018 at Taft Pioneer Cemetery. Memorial Mass and a Celebration of Life will be held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church on Wednesday Nov. 7, 2018 at 12:00 p.m.
