Barbara Yates

Barbara Ann Yates passed away from congestive heart failure at age 75 surrounded by those she loved at her longtime residence in Otis, Oregon. She was born on October 2, 1940 in McMinnville, Oregon to Bernard (Bud) W. Huston and Marion B. (Hurless) Huston. Barbara met her husband Ralph while working at the local movie theater where she would sometimes sneak him in for free. After she graduated from McMinnville High School in 1958 she worked for Oregon Mutual Insurance Company in Mac., then briefly worked in Salem for the State returning to Mac to work again for the State in the Home Extension Office. Barbara then married Ralph September 11, 1960. They have been married for over 55 years. In 1965 the couple and their two small children relocated to Lincoln City, Oregon where Ralph worked as a log truck driver for Dave Bruijn. In 1970 the couple purchased their first and only home in Otis, where they raised their children and Where Barbara worked for the school district at Rose Lodge School. She retired from public service and worked from home helping her husband with his log truck business. Barbara enjoyed traveling, taking several cruises with her older sister to places like; Alaska, Hawaii and the Bahamas. She also loved to shop, especially for purses and shoes. Loved going to the local casino, although she also loved visiting Reno, Laughlin and Las Vegas. Those left to mourn are her beloved husband of 55 years, Ralph Yates of Otis, Oregon, daughter, Rachel and spouse Tim Sweitz of Forest Grove, Oregon, son Ron and spouse Darcy Yates of Otis, Oregon, sister Donna Crocker of Bellingham, Washington. She has two grandchildren, Chris and his spouse Jessica Sweitz, Chelsea Sweitz and four step-grandchildren, Casey, Erin, Sarah and Leanne. Two great grandchildren, Jocelyn and Cody Sweitz and four step great grandchildren; Aimee, Simon, Seth and Isaac and another due in December. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephew, friends and many more. Barbara is preceded in death by her father, Bernard W. (Bud) Huston and her mother, Marion B Thornhill. At Barbara's request, no formal services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer. Arrangements are being entrusted to Pacific View Memorial Chapel.
